On the 15th of October 2025, the Vanuatu Women’s Centre (VWC) proudly joined the annual celebration of International Rural Women’s Day in the Emua community, North Efate.

Theme 2025: “Empowering Rural Women to Achieve Gender Equality.”

The event brought together a range of partners and representatives, including

  • Emua Paramount Chief
  • Silae Vanua Market Association
  • UN Women Country Program Coordinator, Ms. Betty Toa
  • Market vendors from across North Efate
  • Members of the Emua community

In her opening remarks, West Efate Area Administrator, Ms. Sylvie Watt, acknowledged all donor partners and community members present. She highlighted the importance of events like this in recognising and uplifting the vital roles rural women play in community development.

Representatives from the Australian High Commission and UN Women also emphasized the important contributions of rural women to the local economy. They noted that when women cultivated healthy local food, they supported healthier families and strengthened economic growth. They further reinforced that gender equality and ending violence against women and girls must remain a priority in all community efforts.

The program was officially launched and ran for three days, from 14–16 October 2025.
VWC encouraged everyone to support rural women showcasing their products throughout the three-day event.

Happy International Rural Women’s Day 2025!
