VWC Reaffirms Commitment to Eliminate Violence Against Women and Girls during 16 Days of Activism 2025

On 25 November 2025, the Vanuatu Women’s Centre (VWC) joined the National White Ribbon Day Program, reaffirming that the 16 Days of Activism campaign runs from 25 November to 10 December—underscoring its strong commitment to ending Violence Against Women and Girls (EVAWG) in Vanuatu.

The event was held under the theme “Unite to End Digital Violence Against Women and Girls—Think Twice Before You Click!” It brought together government leaders, partners, and community members to reflect on ongoing issues affecting women and girls in physical spaces, communities, and online environments.

At Feiawa Park Stage, VWC Coordinator Tatavola Matas delivered a powerful message highlighting the urgent need to address all forms of violence—physical, emotional, sexual, economic, and technology-facilitated abuse that continues to harm women and girls. She emphasized the growing threat of digital violence, which undermines the safety and wellbeing of women across the country.

“Violence against women and girls is unacceptable—whether at home, in the community, or online,” she stated. “We must stand together to protect the rights and safety of all women and girls.”

The program included a dedication prayer for survivors, speeches from key partners, and the official launch of the 16 Days of Activism campaign by the Minister of Justice. Partners and stakeholders expressed their commitment to strengthening protection systems, promoting equality, and supporting safer communities for women and girls.

VWC extended its appreciation to the Vanuatu Police Force, VMF Band, Australian High Commission in Vanuatu, New Zealand High Commission in Vanuatu, the Ministry of Justice and Community Services, Department of Women’s Affairs, UNFPA, and all other supporting partners. VWC's provincial branches also launched their respective 16 Days of Activism campaigns to expand awareness and advocacy efforts at the community level.

Together, we work towards a Vanuatu free from violence against women and girls.
