On the 22nd August 2025, the Minister of Justice, Youth, Sports, and Community Services, Honourable Job Sam Andy, paid a courtesy visit to the Vanuatu Women’s Centre (VWC). He was accompanied by the Director General of the Ministry of Justice, Mr. Arthur Faerua; the First Political Advisor, Mr. George Amos; the Director of the Department of Women's Affairs, Mrs. Rothina Ilo Noka; and the Human Rights Coordinator, Mr. Albert Nalpini.
The delegation visited the Centre today to meet with staff and learn about the work being carried out across the organization. This marks the first-ever official visit to the Vanuatu Women’s Centre by a state minister—an historic moment that provided an opportunity to discuss and exchange ideas on how the Centre addresses violence against women in Vanuatu.
The delegation toured key sections of the VWC, including Legal, Research, Community Education, and Counselling, to gain insight into their respective roles in addressing violence against women and children. They also learned firsthand how the Centre supports individuals affected by various forms of domestic violence.
The Minister engaged with staff and asked questions about programs implemented in communities across Vanuatu, exploring ways to strengthen support for women and children when accessing other service providers.
The Vanuatu Women’s Centre Coordinator expressed gratitude to the Honourable Minister and his delegation for their visit and emphasized the importance of collaboration between government and non-government institutions in advancing the lives of women and children by addressing harmful social norms that perpetuate a culture of violence and disrespect.
