Education & Empowerment Against Violence
Violence against women and girls can occur on their way to school or within educational institutions. A report by the Secretary-General highlights that in the United States, 83% of girls in grades 8 through 11 (aged 12 to 16) have experienced some form of sexual harassment in public schools.
Education and training are crucial tools in challenging harmful and discriminatory gender stereotypes that enable violence against women and girls.
To tackle these issues, Vanuatu Womenβs Centre runs educational programmes promoting gender equality and womenβs rights, revises formal school curricula and policies, and provides training for teachers, students, and parents.
In partnership with others, VWC has helped develop a non-formal educational curriculum against violence. Educators and youth leaders are currently being trained to deliver this curriculum across 12 countries.
