Vanuatu Women’s Center partnered with the Vanuatu Netball Association and held its first ever men’s netball tournament on the 29th of November, 2022. The tournament coincides with the 16 Days of Activism which Vanuatu Women’s Center actively participates every year with other partners, by raising awareness on Ending Violence Against Women and Girls.  VWC named the tournament the White Ribbon as a symbolism for the men taking part in the competition to end all forms of Violence against Women and Girls.  The trophies were awarded by Vanuatu Women’s Center to teams that came in 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. White Ribbons were also given out to all teams.

There were four teams that took part; Kava Lounge, Vanuatu Spirit, Bred Bank and the Vanuatu Police Force-CID.

Bred Bank Men’s Netball Team are the White Ribbon Day Netball Champions 2022. the Runner up in 2nd Place was – Vanuatu Spirit, coming in 3rd was Kava Lounge and in 4th but also winning the Most Improved team was the Vanuatu Police Force-CID.

Most sponsors gave merchandises and cash donation that were presented to the best players, best teams, bench officials and Umpires of the White Ribbon Day Tournament.

Vanuatu Women’s Centre Coordinator, Tatavola Matas, as a former netball player, was impressed with the talent and the camaraderie on display at the court.  She was grateful to hear that majority of players understood the meaning of the White Ribbon, she made a special remark towards the Vanuatu Police Force- CID team for their participation as they have been a long-time partner with Vanuatu Women Center in Ending Violence against Women, Girls and Children.

Vanuatu Netball Association President Kathie Simons congratulated all the teams that took part and was pleased with the positive feedback, indicating a possibility for a men’s netball league to commence in 2023.
